Activities
Begnas location has several interesting village trails offering possibilities of day hikes ranging from 2 to 6 hours depending on one’s interest:
Begnaskot hike
4 hours
The highest hill around Begnas Lake at 1200m above sea level, Begnaskot has stunning views of the mountains. On clear days, you can see 3 peaks over 8000 meters in altitude (Manaslu, Annapurna I & Dhaulagiri). Besides the mountain views, the hike is great for seeing local villages.
Simal Danda
2 hours
Simal Danda is a beautiful sunny village surrounded by forest and pure nature. It is a really nice and gentle walk for those who like culture and engaging with locals.
Rupa Lake
2-3 hours
This is a beautiful walk for those who like bird-watching and nature. You can keep the walk as long or short as you like and it is very peaceful. The only disadvantage is that you miss out on mountain-views till you get up onto the ridge.
Thulokot
5-6 hours
A more ambitious hike for those with itchy feet, this trip involves a 1 hour drive up to Thulokot from where you will see the mighty Annapurna from Kalikasthan, drop down into delightful Syangkhudi valley then up again to Begnaskot from where you follow the ridge home, for those who want a change of scenery, you can traverse along the hillside below Begnaskot and visit the bird-sanctuary instead.
Pokhara is the adventure hub of Nepal and there is plenty for those who like keeping active and new experiences. Paragliding, micro-light flights, rafting, kayaking and canyoning are all available as day-trips as well as multi-day excursions.
